Comments From Workshop Participants

“Jerry, I really enjoyed myself at your 3-day workshop in BC. It was fun, had a relaxed learning atmosphere, just the right amount of structure, so much information, lots of practice, EXCELLENT instruction, and with having a small group I got more than my money’s worth. Thank you!”
- Elizabeth Egan, Calgary, AB

“The plein air workshop was terrific. Jerry’s enthusiasm was infectious! And he did a great job encouraging everyone and dashing from easel to easel with timely tips and corrections.”
- Rob Prince, Emerson, Manitoba

Thank you to Jerry for a great workshop. I think it has really helped my painting. Jerry set me up to do better painting than I think I’ve done before. Thank you!”
- Lara Taubner, Hamilton, Montana

“Jerry’s plein air workshop was amazing. I really like his personality, big smile, great sense of humour, but best of all his teaching ability. He has such a nice way of guiding you through pointers to change ugly paintings to something that makes you want to continue.”
- Dale Wheeler, Whitby, Ontario

“Jerry, I wanted to thank you for a wonderful weekend workshop – all of your words of wisdom are still fresh in my thoughts and I am seeing “value” everywhere!!!  Perhaps our paths may cross again in the future, if not, please know that you have opened my eyes to a true appreciation of work in oils…..thank you.”
- Rosanne Yaskowich, Calgary, AB

“I enjoyed the workshop very much. Jerry is an excellent instructor. I hope that I will return to one of his workshops one of these days.”
- Viviane Grenier, Orleans, Ontario

“Jerry’s classes have helped me to really observe what I’m painting and ask myself questions throughout the process. He has given me tools to grow in my painting and an excitement to start painting with new eyes.”
- Barb Hannington, Past President, Central Okanagan Federation of Canadian Artists

“Jerry spent a good deal of time with each of us and guided us with questions to make us think about why we make the choices we make and our intention as we work on a painting.  Jerry is a good instructor.”

Feedback from Art Organizations

“Jerry is truly gifted both as an artist and teacher. His approach to the subjects he paints, and the knowledge he shares with his students, make his workshops a delight. To be so enthusiastic yet patient enough to teach others is a rare combination.”
- Happy Barlow, Gallery Owner and former Museum Shop Manager of the Leighton Art Centre

“I really enjoyed Jerry’s workshop.  Jerry did a really good job of providing good, concise advice and getting to everyone for just the right length of time. He ran back and forth between everyone and put in a lot of hours. Jerry was well organized, friendly, hard working, well-prepared and super easy to talk to.  I would recommend him again for a workshop.”
- Tessa Stanley, organizer and participant of Jasper 2014 workshop with Leading Edge Art Workshops

“I first met Jerry in 2011 when he came to do a workshop that I organized for an art group in Cochrane, Alberta.  He has since been back three times to do two workshops and a demonstration, all of which I personally participated in.  I have also been on two amazing plein air painting trips with Jerry that took us to spectacular locations in the Rocky Mountains.  I highly recommend Jerry to any group that is interested in working with him.  He is a well-organized and committed artist who generously shares his knowledge in a consistently professional manner.  Jerry’s high energy and passion for painting is contagious!”
- Anne McGilvary, Cochrane Art Club, Calgary, Alberta

“The workshop was just fabulous.  I wish we’d booked you for a longer period of time.  I thoroughly enjoyed the painting workshop.  You are practical and share things in a down-to-earth way that makes them completely accessible.  I left the workshop knowing just what I need to do.  I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I now believe I can actually do it. Thank you again for coming and for all you did for us!”
- Pat Jeffers, Organizer and Participant of workshop in Montrose, CO in 2013

“Leading Edge Art Workshops was pleased to have Jerry Markham teach a plein air workshop in Jasper in June of 2014.  The workshop was well-attended and all of the students rated Jerry’s teaching as excellent and would attend another workshop with him. Some of the things the students mentioned were that Jerry explains things in simple terms, and that he made very helpful comments about their work.  Leading Edge Art Workshops would certainly like to work with him again.”
- Louise Hall, owner of Leading Edge Art Workshops
