Learning to see with an artists eye often depends on unlearning some things that we don’t know we do. Our brain fills in gaps resulting in painting what we think we see, not what is actually there.
In this two and half day workshop, through demonstrations, drawing and painting exercises, you will learn techniques to improve your observational skills. The beauty of learning to REALLY see is that you can then paint anything – a still life, landscape, or figure. There are no tricks, magic keys or fancy color combinations that will ever surpass your ability to observe.
This workshop is open to people who paint in oil or acrylic, and any skill level.
Friday, April 8 – 6:30 to 9:30 pm
Saturday, April 9 & Sunday, April 10 – 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
Location: A.J. Ottewell Centre (the Barn), 590 Broadmoor Blvd, Sherwood Park, Alberta
Registration: This workshop is organized by the Art Society of Strathcona County. Register online at www.artstrathcona.com. For more information contact Sue at 780-449-4443 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. $225 for members / $300 non-members
The plein air workshop was terrific. Jerry's enthusiasm was infectious! And he did a great job encouraging everyone and dashing from easel to easel with timely tips and corrections.
Jerry's plein air workshop was amazing. I really like his personality, big smile, great sense of humour, but best of all his teaching ability. He has such a nice way of guiding you through pointers to change ugly paintings to something that makes you want to continue.
Thank you to Jerry for a great workshop. I think it has really helped my painting. Jerry set me up to do better painting than I think I've done before. Thank you!
Jerry, I wanted to thank you for a wonderful weekend workshop - all of your words of wisdom are still fresh in my thoughts and I am seeing "value" everywhere!!! Perhaps our paths may cross again in the future, if not, please know that you have opened my eyes to a true appreciation of work in oils.....thank you.
I enjoyed the workshop very much. Jerry is an excellent instructor. I hope that I will return to one of his workshops one of these days.
Jerry is truly gifted both as an artist and teacher. His approach to the subjects he paints, and the knowledge he shares with his students, make his workshops a delight. To be so enthusiastic, yet patient enough to teach others, is a rare combination. Thank-you for the opportunity to participate in the workshop.
Jerry, I really enjoyed myself at your 3-day workshop in BC. It was fun, had a relaxed learning atmosphere, just the right amount of structure, so much information, lots of practice, EXCELLENT instruction, and with having a small group I got more than my money's worth. Thank you!
